Almaden Valley

Nestled between the majestic Sierra Azul Mountain range to the west and the golden Santa Teresa Foothills to the east, Almaden Valley has often been referred to as one of the most gorgeous landscapes in America with it’s rolling tree-covered hillsides, gorgeous vistas and vast open spaces. Located at the south-west-end of San Jose, just 20-minutes from Downtown, and 40-minutes from most major Silicon Valley Employers, commuting in and out of the valley is easy with access to Almaden Expressway, Highways 85 & 87, and light rail access at Almaden Lake Park.

Almaden is a diverse population of over 40,000 residents consisting of mainly upper middle class families; and with a convenient location in Silicon Valley, Almaden is a place where many of our engineers, scientists, athletes, and hi-tech executives call this historically rich community “home.” With an average home value in the million-dollar price-range, residential choices include many diverse neighborhoods scattered throughout the valley. Housing options within Almaden are known to offer relatively sizable floor plans and lot sizes, within a wide array of architectural styles including custom built, mid-century CA ranch-style homes found in the exclusive Almaden country club neighborhood; modern track-built ranch-style homes found throughout neighborhoods such as the peaceful Woodside of Almaden; the “new age” mini-mansions found in the hills above Williams Elementary; rural horse properties located further out on Almaden Road and McKean Road; as well as several distinguished neighborhoods featuring custom hillside estate properties…no matter your preferences, you’re sure to find your perfect match among Almaden’s many housing options.

What’s fascinating about Almaden is that it’s as rich in history, as it is in breathtaking beauty….just a short drive south along Almaden Road takes visitors to the “old” town of New Almaden, the namesake of the valley where visitors will find stoic mining remnants left over from the days when Almaden was once a world-famous quicksilver mining community. Named after Almaden Spain, the location of another world famous quicksilver mine, the old town of New Almaden was CA’s first mining operation which flourished for 135 years before the county purchased the land for development of a regional park in 1974. Cinnabar, the “bright red” ore from which Mercury is manufactured, was discovered here in 1820 and mining operations began soon after in 1845. The New Almaden Mines were paramount in the success of the gold and silver mines all across North America.

Today several historical landmarks pay tribute to the area’s rich history such as the Casa Grande, the Quicksilver Mining Museum, the Carson House, as well as the many charming mining cottages found along the Los Alamitos Creek. Many tourists and school children take trips to view the various museums and historical landmarks, as well as visit the Almaden Quicksilver County Park which encompasses 4,163 acres, occupying a majority of Capitancillos Ridge. During early spring, the park offers one of the most spectacular wildflower displays in the region.

In addition to the dramatic landscapes, Almaden’s neighborhoods consist of many shopping & convenience stores, community centers, public parks and award winning schools, making it a top choice for hard working Silicon Valley residents looking for an escape from the congestion of urban centers.

Many large chain grocery stores including Safeway, Lucky’s, Rite-Aid, Whole Foods, Costco & Trader Joe’s and more, can be found within close proximity to most Almaden Valley neighborhoods. And with several shopping centers including the “Almaden Center; Almaden Oaks Plaza; and Almaden Plaza, residents are served by numerous retail stores and are offered plentiful dining options. Almaden is even host to a Farmer’s Market every Wednesday and Sunday in the Via Valiente Shopping Plaza featuring over 35 vendors selling fresh local organic produce.

Several community centers as well as numerous public parks are scattered throughout most neighborhoods. The Almaden Public Library and Community Center, located adjacent to Simonds Elementary school, was a huge investment into our local community and offers a community room, library, gymnasium, dance studio, fitness room, teen room, computer lab, teaching kitchen, classrooms and more. Numerous community programs are offered for Youth, Adults, Seniors and those with disabilities.

Some of the most well know public parks include Almaden Lake Park, home to the Almaden Valley Art & Wine festival and Fourth of July Festivities; the Los Alimitos Creek Trail, a popular jogging & biking path winding through the valley; and Greystone Park, offering children’s playgrounds, several little league baseball fields, and home of “music in the park” festivities during the summer months.

If I’ve learned anything from being in this industry for over a decade now, it’s that real estate professionals play an integral role in the course of any real estate transaction. But in order to be effective as an agent, and provide the highest level of service, one should be a great listener, a strong negotiator, a problem solver, and quick to embrace new technologies that assist in streamlining the transaction process.
